The mandate of Hearts Healing Hunger is to provide direct relief to thousands of hungry people throughout the world, so as to avoid severe malnutrition and starvation. Additional projects will involve building emergency shelters for women and girls as a refuge from domestic violence and human trafficking, protection from dowry harassment, building retirement and nursing homes for the elderly, constructing libraries and literacy programs, establishing medical clinics, providing micro credit loans, helping villages to build water sustainability via check dams, embankments, drip irrigation, indigenous shallow wells, strategically placed ponds, river and lakeside plantations, and the planting of thousands of trees. Longer term projects include creation of an ecologically and economically sustainable community which will be able to thrive despite climate change and political-economic collapse in surrounding regions. However, more than all the above is the urgent mandate to feed the hungry. Initial venues will be Siliguri, North Bengal and Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Thereafter Hearts Healing Hunger intends to establish feeding centers in all major cities of India and to extend the program to rural areas. |
