Please help us to end hunger by supporting our first project, which is simply to feed the hungry people in and around Siliguri, North Bengal. The right to food is a fundamental human right. It should not be a gift, and should not be a charity. Our goal is not only to provide food but to instil in people the awareness that food is the birthright of all. Only when all people have food can we say that ours is a genuinely humane society.

Please help us by volunteering. There are infinite ways of volunteering, including cooking, managing the feeding, sitting with and loving the hungry while they eat, transportation, sitting with and loving the abandoned women who often die not just from hunger but from loneliness. Some people cannot eat and must be spoon fed. Come with us to meet all sorts of people in Siliguri to invite them to join us in feeding the people. We need to purchase one acre of land in Siliguri, because land will allow us to move forward with construction of a 3,000 square foot building to be used for cooking and food distribution, and to take in destitute women for as long as required until they can return to the society as economically empowered women.

Future plans such as creating an economically and ecologically sustainable community are being developed. But right now the urgency is funds to feed the people. In the coming year we expect a sharp global economic downturn, which will result in thousands more hungry people right in the Siliguri area. We also expect more natural disasters globally and in our specific region, including water shortage, ensuing drought and food shortages along with excessive floods during the two months of monsoon. Our expanding goal is to reach disaster-hit areas and serve food to the stranded people.

After working here for two months we have quickly learned that the needs of the hungry extend far beyond food. They require clothes, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, essential female hygienic items such as sanitary pads along with underwear. In the winter months here the temperature drops below 60 degrees and central heating does not exist. Hence, the acutely poor people need sweaters and blankets. They need basic medicines such as for colds, diarrhoea, flu, tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS, which is rampant here due to the high refugee population and free border crossings with neighbouring impoverished countries.

Many of the people we feed badly need shelter. They need proper homes of concrete, even just one room, because right now they live under pieces of plastic, even during the heavy monsoon rains. It is simply not not tolerable to allow our brothers and sisters to live like this.

Our goals are crystal clear, and for each project we are developing projected budgets in the most economical manner possible. With your donations, we will right now be able to move swiftly to purchase the minimum necessities for serving the people. At the present time, we are cooking in the living room of our flat and delivering the food in a three-wheel auto rickshaw. Hence, overhead costs are at the bare minimum. However, the food is costly. Slowly more and more people want to come with us to help feed the people. It means we require a proper vehicle such as a jeep, which will also enable us to move off the main roads and into the deep rural areas where hardly any roads exist but where people are living and barely subsisting.
