Hyderabad is a teeming city in central south India of up to eight million people. While recognized as a flourishing and affluent metropolis with numerous Fortune 500 companies headquartered in its hi-tech city, there is simultaneously severe poverty with slums in every district. Poverty and illiteracy rates in the famous old city called Charminar are particularly high. It is a case of poverty amidst plenty as hunger can be found everywhere in Hyderabad. Regular water shortages accentuate and exacerbate the sufferings of the slum dwellers. |
